Log College Winter Sports
Dear Log College Families,
As we wrap up a fantastic fall sports season, we’re excited to shift our focus toward the Winter Sports season here at Log College Middle School. Running from November through February, the Winter season will feature four exciting sports open to all of our 7th and 8th-grade students. This year, we’re proud to offer opportunities in Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, and Cheerleading.
We are also pleased to announce the continuation of our JV teams for both boys' and girls' basketball, allowing even more students to take part in a full eight-game season. These JV teams, like our varsity teams, will consist of a mix of 7th and 8th-grade students, ensuring a well-rounded and inclusive experience for all.
Let’s make this Winter season a memorable one for our athletes and our community. Stay tuned for more details, including tryout information and practice schedules. Go, Log College!
Here are some important details for parents and guardians if your child is planning to participate in any of these sports:
Important Dates:
Girls Basketball: The meeting for further information is set for Wednesday November 6, 2024 at 3:00. Tryouts will be held after school on November 7 and 8 from 3:00-4:15. Please contact or see Mr. Swartwood for additional information.
Cheerleading: Cheerleading information to come shortly. Please reach out to Ms. Chase with any questions.
Wrestling: Wrestling will conduct an informational meeting during the week of November 11th. The specific date is to be determined. For more information, please contact Mr. Quinn or Mr. Leiby.
Boys Basketball: Our boys' basketball season begins following the conclusion of the girls' basketball season, around mid-January. More details will be provided as we approach the season start date. Please contact Mr. Clemmons or Mr. Corey for further information.
Fall Athletes Interested in Winter Sports:
If you participated in a fall sport at Log College this year and have already submitted a PIAA physical, you do not need a new physical. However, a PIAA recertification form must be completed and signed by a parent. Recertification forms are available in Mr. Corey’s room (Room 54) and must be submitted before tryouts begin.
Physical Examination: Students must have a completed PIAA Physical Form signed by a doctor before participating in tryouts. Information about our collaboration with Liberty Urgent Care (details attached) may be helpful to families who are unable to secure an appointment with their regular doctor's office.
What if you can not get an appointment??? Can I get it completed anywhere else?
YES: Cvs Minute Clinic or Urgent Care
If you use any of the following Liberty Urgent Care centers and mention Centennial SD your physical will only cost $20

Hello Log College families,
Though school begins on August 28, you can begin planning for the athletic season in advance.
Athletics:
In order for 7th/8th grade students to participate in our athletic program, each child must have the following completed and submitted prior to the first day of tryouts (tryouts typically begin during the first or second week of the school year).
PIAA sports physical -
All students must have a completed PIAA physical (dated after June 1, 2024).
Sections 1 to 5 within the PIAA sports physical packet must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian. Section 6 must be completed by an authorized medical examiner (family doctor, urgent care, minute clinic). You can ignore pages 7-8. Page 9 is only for students participating in wrestling during the winter season. The physical forms can be downloaded from the link - PIAA Physical Form - Updated 3/22/23
A district contracted doctor will be available during the school day to perform physicals for one day only at Log College for $20 (Time and date TBD, but likely during the first week of school). You may also visit any of the Liberty Urgent Care Locations between now and the start of the Fall season, and they will honor our district’s price of $20.
Concussion Test completion
Concussion tests are a baseline assessment that helps our coaches ensure the concussion safety of our students as they participate in sports throughout the season.
Within the first few school days, each team will host an information session after school (from 3:00-4:15 p.m.). Concussion testing will be completed during these sessions.
Following the session, late buses will also be available to return students home, or you may pick up your child.
